Using zoom

The Union now has a Zoom licence for societies to use! Our booking system is on a first-come first-served basis so make sure you plan ahead and give at least 7 days notice of when you need to use one.

Your event must be listed on the website in order to use a zoom licence (with the exception of AGMs & EGMs), check out how to list an event here.

Please fill in the form here to apply to use one of the licences (If your event is likely to have more than 100 attendees please plan a bit further in advance and let Polly know).

Not sure how to use Zoom? Don't worry - there's lots of short walkthrough videos here.

Making a custom background.

Following freshers fair last year, students told us they didn't know who people where when they joined a Zoom call, making a custom background is a super easy way to let people know who you are and your role within a society, we've made a quick guide and a template, but feel free to add some society specific stuff!

We're going to use Canva because it's free and super easy to use but feel free to use whatever software you want.

Go to canva.com log in (or sign up).

Once you're signed in click this link and select "Use template" (please DO NOT select "Edit") in the bottom left corner (note: you may need to refresh the link as sometimes it doesn't show the pen):

This will bring up the template so you can make edits, such as changing your name, society, and position .

To add your society logo select uploads and  then "Upload media" on the left hand side panel:

It would probably be best if one person made the backgrounds for all the society leaders in your society so that they're consistent.

Here's an example but feel free to add your own flair!

When you're done you can download in the top right, it's best to select PNG.

In Zoom you can add the background by going to Settings ==> Background & Filters and then the little plus symbol:

And you're done!

If you have any questions please feel free to email Adam :)
