Hello! I’m Daniel, one of your Student Executives. I’m originally from Nigeria and moved to Edinburgh seven months ago to study Logistics and Supply Chain Management. It’s a course that looks at how the world moves, how people, products, and ideas get from one place to another, and I’ve always found that fascinating.
Edinburgh has been a brilliant place to call home so far. I love how calm and scenic it is, the history around every corner, and most of all, how welcoming people are. Living on campus has been a huge part of that too. It’s peaceful, convenient, and feels like its own little community.
When I saw the opportunity to become a Student Executive, it immediately reminded me of my undergraduate years back home, where I represented students and worked to make sure their voices were heard. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about. For me, student representation is about asking how we can make a good system even better and making sure students get the most out of their university experience.
If I had to describe the Student Executive role to a new student, I’d say we’re the bridge between students and the University. You might not always know where to take a concern, an idea, or a piece of feedback, but that’s where we come in. We listen and help make sure those voices reach the right people. What excites me most about the role is the chance to meet students from all over the world, work alongside the team, and learn from different experiences and perspectives.
The Union values that resonate with me most is Welcoming. Moving to a new country can feel daunting, so having people who genuinely want to help you settle in makes a huge difference. I know what that feels like firsthand, and I want other students to have that same sense of belonging and support.
Outside of university, I’m a huge music fan. My playlists jump from Michael Jackson to jazz, funk, pop, and even classic Italian songs like Volare. I also love exploring Edinburgh’s history and discovering new corners of the city.
A quirky fact about me? I’m naturally quite introverted and could happily spend days at home, but moving here pushed me to put myself out there. Thanks to that, I’ve found a community that now feels like family.
