Heriot-Watt University and the Student Union have teamed up to help kick start a Student Sustainability Forum with the key purpose of creating a space for two-way dialogue between the University and the students on all things sustainability.

We want students to bring students together to share their knowledge around sustainability and some of the multi-facetted solutions that are needed to address the climate crisis.

We strive to create a space for students that is: accessible, flexible, informal and as welcoming as possible so that every student feels comfortable joining the sustainability conversation.

The HWU Sustainability team – Lindsay Wilson, Anna Clark, Caitríona Buggle, Chris Larkin and Emily Stone and the SU Sustainability team – SU president, Scott Anderson and VP for Communities, Sebi Merino, want the student to lead the Forum sessions and to bring their own agendas to the forefront.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Sustainability and SU teams role is to facilitate open dialogue with the students on all HWU sustainability initiatives and any concerns the students might have around sustainability.

The teams are therefore responsible for bringing the feedback, ideas and concerns that the students share at the Forums to the decision-making committees and panel across HWU.

The role of students is to the voice their feedback, ideas and concerns on sustainability initiatives so that the team can bring these to the decision-making table.

The Forums take place once a month and so far we have two sessions taking place on September 20th and October 25th . At these sessions we have discussed HWU’s Net Zero framework and Chris Larkin, Environment & Energy Manager, talked us through this future direction that the University is taking to reduce its carbon emissions.

If you’d like to attend a Forum or if you’d like to find out more about the sessions please email or message – sustainableHWU@hw.ac.uk
