Take a look at some of our highlights from the past year

The last two semesters have been busy ones for us. With no covid restrictions in place, it was the first full year where we were sort of back to normal!

With all that said, take a look at how many pies we’ve had our fingers in this past year:

Watt Welcome Fair

Teaming up with the Sports Union, we help run the annual Watt Welcome Fair during Freshers Week. The fair showcases all the ways you can get involved at Heriot-Watt. We welcomed hundreds of new students who got a taster of all the different sports clubs and societies.

Movember Darts

In collaboration with the team at HWU Movember, we helped facilitate one of the flagpole events, Movember Darts. Staff and students came together to compete in a darts championship which ran into the evening. We helped play our part in raising a resounding £24,708!

Christmas Freebie Friday

We provided a free Christmas lunch with all the trimmings for 100 festive students. In the evening, we were handing out free hot chocolates and biscuits. Think Santa Claus, but his iconic red suit is changed for a more preferable pink and blue number!

Refreshers Fair

We ran a Refreshers fair to help January intake students feel part of the Heriot-Watt community right from the get-go. Similarly to the summer, we had a wide range of societies take to the stalls in the Union and sell themselves to potential members.

Elections

In February and March, we were consumed (in a good way, promise x) by the Annual Student Elections. In the end, a grand total of 9,323 votes were cast from 1723 individual voters. That's 16.6% of all of Heriot-Watt! We can't wait to work with the new Full Time Officer team next year.

Volunteer Awards and Oscars

At the end of the year, we held our two annual award ceremonies. The first ceremony is the Volunteer Awards which celebrates the hard-working volunteers (societies, Academic reps, and volunteering in the wider community) that we are so lucky and grateful to have at Heriot-Watt. This year, the brand-spanking new National Robotarium was the backdrop for a tremendous night.
The second of the ceremonies is the Student Union Oscars. This celebrates the exceptional staff at Heriot-Watt who went above and beyond throughout the year. What makes this so special is that the nominations that students provide for staff are read out to them before collecting their awards!

Summer Exam help

Over the exam period, we went all out to help you through it. ONE THOUSAND students will have received our exam care packages across all three campuses in Scotland. We had our wonderful Alpacas up on campus and of course, we had our "Project Exam" end-of-year party. This was an all-day and night event filled to the gunwales with fun, so much so that the fun overflowed and went everywhere... to put it lightly. There was a BBQ, a DJ, inflatables, and loads of student bands playing live music until we closed. As an end-of-year celebration, we don’t think it could’ve gone much better!
