We'd like to wish a Happy Chinese New Year to all our students and staff!
Today marks a new Lunar year and the first day of the Spring Festival; a 15-day period to celebrate the end of winter and to pray for wealth and good fortune for the coming year.
Celebrations involve firecrackers and fireworks to scare off monsters, dumplings and cakes, gifts and family gatherings. The colour red holds a particular significance in this festival as well as it helps fight monsters and demons. It is used for decorations and clothing – most people also wear at least one red item of clothing the rest of the year as well!
Going into the rest of 2021, we'd like to wish all our students and coworkers around Heriot-Watt wealth and good fortune!
