Building a strong global community, together, for your future.

Our Strategic Plan is the result of our Officers, staff, Trustees and the University listening to the voices of our students and finding out where we could do better.

Our strategy consists of four key areas:

Empower Students to shape what we do

We want to make sure the Student Union is understood to be more than just a building, that it’s thought of as an active and connected community. We will tell students more about what we do and empower our members to influence change at the Union and University.

Inspire students to become great graduates

We want our students to feel that they will have great employment prospects and strong links with industry when they leave university. In an increasingly competitive graduate market, we will help our students to demonstrate why Heriot-Watt Graduates are so special.

Enhance student experiences and activities

Students who participate in activities through the Union are more likely to enjoy their overall student experience. We will provide volunteering opportunities, build a vibrant student community through activities and create a community around academic interests.

Develop our global community

Our students come from all over the world to study at one of our campuses, including our international ones. We will meet the needs of our diverse range of students through social events and international and UK communities.

Alongside this, we also have four Enabling Strategies which help to shape our operational goals during the life of this strategy. They are:

  • Facilities – our space and building
  • Commercial – our retail and catering services
  • Communications – the communications channels we use to reach students
  • Finance – our responsibility of good financial health.
