Let's say hello to...

Eliot, Student Engagement Coordinator (Projects & Campaigns)

Steering the Ship for Student Change

Hi, I’m Eliot, the Union’s Student Engagement Coordinator for Projects & Campaigns, which basically means I help students turn brilliant ideas into real change. Whether it’s fighting for fairer housing, creating a sustainability project, or starting something completely new, I’m here to help you make waves.

I actually grew up down south in Bath, but I spent loads of my childhood visiting my Gran in the Scottish Borders, which meant falling in love with Scotland from an early age. Fast forward a bit (past nearly failing my A-levels and taking a gap year), and somehow, I made it to Stirling University. In what feels like a full circle moment, turns out uni was for me after all, and I haven’t looked back since.

I’m brand new to Heriot-Watt but I already feel at home in a community that cares about making things better. Right now, I’m supporting student officers and campaigners, helping them build skills, mobilise support, and turn ideas into impact. Whether it’s creating resources, running projects, or just being a sounding board for your next big idea, I’m here for it.

One thing I’m really proud of is the housing campaign work I was part of at Stirling. I helped a friend run for the role of Housing Officer in the Student Union, after we’d spent months working together on housing issues. Supporting her journey was just as rewarding as the campaign wins themselves. It proves how powerful communities are when they work together.

The Union value that speaks to me most is empowering. My job isn’t to lead your campaign, it’s to help you find your voice and run with it. Campaigning can be a huge confidence boost; I know it was for me. I went from feeling self-conscious to chairing meetings for 50+ people, and I love helping others experience that same growth.

Outside of work, I play piano, crochet (ask me about the turtle I made), love rugby (my team just won the Premiership, no big deal), and I’m always up for a board game night (Ticket to Ride is a favourite). Oh, and here’s a fun fact: I once lived on a canal boat for a year. It was an amazing, a very manual adventure in self-sufficiency. Would I do it again? Probably not, but it made for some great stories.
