Students Actuarial Society

The Students’ Actuarial Society is here to encourage you to have fun, get involved, and make the most of your degree, so you can go into the world of work with your best foot forward!

We aim to improve your industry knowledge through the newsletters we send out and our annual actuarial conference – filled with knowledgeable speakers giving talks relevant to you. Last year's conference hosted talks from Vitality, Pan Trustees, and a panel discussion with both previously mentioned speakers and including representatives from Royal London and the government's actuarial department. We also hold careers talks from internal staff and external firms to give you valuable insight into the recruitment process. In the past we have had talks from Lloyds, 4most and even Heriot-Watt teaching staff regarding their own fascinating research. We also run a mock assessment centre to put your skills to the test and help you get set up for applying for those great internship experiences or graduate placements.  We liaise with MACS to provide student-led workshops for those studying difficult courses to give extra support and knowledge from experienced individuals. All work and no play isn't the best balance for university as it offers opportunities to meet like-minded individuals, and SAS is no exception! We hold regular socials throughout the year to get people across the faculty networking and chatting. We have previously had bowling, mini gold, geek pub crawls, and an end of year party at Roxy Lanes! We aim to provide support and help you to take a breather when all that studying is just a little too much at times. Feel free to get in touch at any time as SAS is always open to everyone, members or otherwise. Hope to see you at one of our next events soon!!
