Elections

In March, we held our annual Student Elections. This year, we shook things up a bit with the introduction of our in-person polling booth in the Hugh Nisbet Corridor. We helped run the polling booth, booking time out to help students vote in person.

By the end of the week, we had hit our target of 18% of all of Heriot-Watt. Thank you to everyone who ran and to all the students who voted in the elections!

Global Day

In the first week of March, we held our Annual Global Day. The event looks to celebrate the great diversity that we have here at our Edinburgh Campus. It is a popular event which was first established in 2016. Each year our Global Day event allows students the opportunity to represent their desired country and share it with Heriot-Watt students from around the globe.

We helped by running stalls (Woo go Yorkshire!!), contributing to the live performances, and creating a worldwide collaborative playlist to soundtrack the day, but global day wouldn’t be anything without the students. To all the students who volunteered to run a stall and those who came down and supported our Global Day event, we’d like to thank you for making Global Day 2024 such a memorable day for everyone involved!

Global Day was also aligned with the Dubai and Malaysia campuses as they celebrate the rich diversity at their campuses also!

Gala Pub quiz

With future ambitions of brining more events and opportunities to our students down in Galashiels, the Galashiels Pub Quiz this month did just that!

The quiz took place in the Mac Arts music and arts venue down in the Scottish Borders and was hosted by none other than our newly re-elected VP Community Sebi! The quiz saw 40 students from our Galashiels campus battling it out in small teams to be crowned the Kings of the quiz. It was especially great to see such a diverse group of students from differing years of study with some people even claiming that it was the most people they’d seen in a while, which is great to hear!

Stay tuned as we more Galashiels Pub Quizzes are coming soon!

Community Meal

Our Community Meal was another memorable event during March. On Tuesday the 12th of March we hosted another hugely successful community meal which allowed over 100 students to tuck into a tasty free lunch.

Inspired by our favourite cartoon cat, on the menu this month, some homemade lasagna. It was great to see so many students down at the student union on the day, and we will be offering plenty more community meals in the future, so if you didn’t manage to grab yourself a free meal this time round don't panic, there's plenty more food coming!

VA/Oscars Planning

Whilst our Volunteer Awards and Student Union Oscars events aren’t taking place until April, March has been a month full of organising and preparation to ensure that both events are of the highest standard.

This year both events are running back-to-back with our Student Union Oscars taking place on Thursday the 4th of April followed by our Volunteer awards on Friday the 5th of April. With lots of preparation required to ensure both events run smoothly, we are all looking forward to bringing you an amazing night for both upcoming events.
