It’s almost time to roll out the red carpet as the Heriot-Watt Student Union Oscars are almost upon us!
What is the Heriot-Watt Student Union Oscars?
The Student Union Oscars is a student led award ceremony centred around congratulating the amazing staff here at Heriot-Watt university. Students have the chance to nominate teachers who they feel have demonstrated exceptional teaching, research, and support at Heriot-Watt. So, if you have a member of staff in mind that you want to nominate for an award at the Oscars night, you’ll need to write up a nomination. How? It’s super easy!
The judging panel will base their decision solely on how best the nomination meets the criteria of the award category you have nominated the teacher for. In simple terms, try to avoid one-liners in the nomination process and instead, tell us why YOU feel as though your nomination deserves it, really sell their brilliance to the judges!
What separates a great nomination from a good one is clear examples. Explain in detail why this teacher has gone above and beyond to support you in your learning. Be sure to read over each of the award criteria to ensure that your nomination is in the correct category for the best chance of winning.

These awards are for the supervisors who went above and beyond to support you when working on your dissertation or final project, supporting you from idea to completion, giving advice and feedback. There will be 3 winners for this category – Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD.

This award is for an individual or group of staff members who actively seek and use student feedback to make the student experience the best it can be.
