My Transition Story in 2020

Given how 2020 has been it is understandable that many graduates would have been disheartened and disappointed about the future. So when we received the following testimonial from Augustina we were very delighted to share some good news.

I am Augustina Ginikanwa, a Nigerian and a recent 2020 Graduate of Information Technology for the Oil and Gas Industry at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. I have been the Best Graduating Student at all levels throughout my High School and Undergraduate University days and hopefully, I will bag the coveted award yet again during my MSc. Graduation Ceremony, come December, 2020.

I met Dr. Ollie casually at a Nigerian Traditional Event in Aberdeen. He held a piece of paper on which he urged attendees to put down their names to attend another life-changing event named "Transition". I made it a date and attended. My experience at the event opened my eyes to the UK job pursuit possibilities I could take advantage of.

The mock interview I had with the HR Manager of Oceaneering, the group exercises I engaged in with a team of fellow students, the assessment from an assessor during the exercise, as well as the final group presentation made me envision myself as standing on a new pedestal of confidence and tenacity to continue thenceforth to apply for authentic jobs related to my MSc. study.

Dr. Ollie was utterly helpful with nuggets of information and advice whenever I needed help. He pointed me in the right direction, utilising his network of prestigious professionals.

Ultimately, I went through the arguably 6 toughest interview stages of my life yet, which sees me resume a new role as an IT Service Engineer in British Petroleum (BP), come September 7th, 2020.

I am immensely grateful to Dr. Ollie Folayan and to the entire members of AFBE, for this metamorphic event known as Transition and I enjoin every student to take advantage of it.
