Want to say Hi?
Hi I'm Emily, and I'll be your Student President this year. I can't wait to get started as it seems so long ago that I was elected. Hopefully I'll get to meet you all soon, but in the mean time keep safe and feel free to drop me an email at union.president@hw.ac.uk
Have you been involved in the Student Union before being elected as President?
I have worked as a Receptionist at the Union for the last couple of years - you might recognise me if you've topped up your bus pass! I was also a delegate at the NUS Scotland Conference earlier this year, and I was the Vice President of the Heriot-Watt Business Management Society.
Why did you decide to stand to be Student Union President?
From working in the Union and being involved in societies, I realised the great impact that the Union can have on the student experience. The motivation behind running for President was the desire to be directly involved in decision-making and changes that will enhance the overall University experience for ALL students.
We know it's only day 3 for you, but what are you setting as your main goals that you'd like to achieve this year?
I want to continue to build strong relations with the University, and work together to enhance the student experience. I want to host more cultural events to celebrate our global student community, and I'd like to improve the postgraduate experience.
What you're most looking forward to as a Full Time Officer?
Over the next year, I will be aiming to make your University experience the best that it can possibly be, and welcome any ideas that you may have to make this happen. I am looking forward to meeting so many of you, returning and new students. I am excited to represent all of you, as your President, to voice any of your concerns, ideas and achievements.
For those of you that are about to join our Heriot-Watt community, welcome and good luck with your exciting new journey! Returning students, I hope that you enjoy your summer break and take some well-deserved time to relax, ready for your next stage in September. For our students entering their final year, I hope that you enjoy this final chapter, and I wish you every success in your degree!
