What is a Freshers Rep?

A Freshers Rep is a volunteer whose main aim is to make new students feel welcome at Heriot-Watt. They’re a really important part of Freshers Week. The Student Union wouldn’t be able to run all our great events and activities without their help.

What would I be doing?

We’ve got options for you to volunteer as a Freshers Rep both in-person and online this year.

If you’d like to volunteer in-person, you can expect to:

  • Help students move in to their Halls

  • Answer questions from students and their parents

  • Lead team-building activities to help students meet their new friends

  • Encourage students to get involved in activities across Freshers Week and beyond

  • Make sure Watt Welcome Fair runs smoothly

  • Be a friendly face for all students around campus

If you’d like to volunteer online, you can expect to:

  • Answer questions from students and their parents

  • Lead team-building activities to help students meet their new friends

  • Encourage students to get involved in activities across Freshers Week and beyond

  • Make sure the online Watt Welcome Fair runs smoothly

  • Be a friendly face for all students virtually

Also if you’ve been a Freshers Rep before, you’ve got the opportunity to apply for a Team Leader position with more responsibility!

When would you need me?

How do I apply?

The application form’s right here. As well as a few questions about you to complete, we’re also looking for a 60 second video from you to show us why you’d be good at being a Freshers Rep. We don't need anything fancy - feel free to film it on your phone. We're wanting to see your passion and energy shine through!

These links should give you an idea of what we’re looking for from the video:
