WHAT’S THE JOB?
We’re looking for a calm and collected student to join us as the Chair of Parliament this academic year. The role will work with the democratic structures of the Student Union to make sure Parliament meetings are well run, with productive discissions and great participation from Student Members of Parliament.
The role is voluntary, Parliament meetings last for two hours, there are at least three Student Parlaiment meetings each academic year, and these are all currently run online so you can work from home!
WHO ARE WE?
We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union. We’re based in Edinburgh and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot-Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here. We have our commercial outlets as well as Advice Hub, academic representation, societies and community, plus we work with Students to make their time at Heriot-Watt the best it can be.
Student experience is a key priority for us, and Student Parliament is there to make sure decisions being made reflect what students want to see happening.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
This is a voluntary position and is not paid. By Chairing Student Parliament, you will gain valuable experience that you can demonstrate and draw on in future. Some skills you’ll learn are creating an inclusive environment, communication skills, conflict management, planning agendas, managing time and staying neutral.
