WHAT’S THE JOB?
We’re looking for two amazing students to provide administrative support to both our Full-Time Officer (FTO) team as well as the Student Engagement Team.
The FTO team are effectively the face of the Union representing students, developing and delivering campaigns and events. Many of the recent events across campuses, particularly Galashiels were as a direct result of FTO planning.
If our FTOs are the Union’s face there is a committed staff team who work with the FTOs to deliver their four priorities around isolation, confusion, financial wellbeing and global connectivity.
We are looking for two students who want to get involved in the workings of the Union and contribute to positive outcomes for our members (students) by providing a great service to the team in all things administration.
We are keen to talk to people with great planning and administration skills who can juggle many different pieces of work, have an excellent telephone manner and effective communication skills.
You will also play an active part in the team and wider Union supporting initiatives, events and meetings during the academic year.
The two jobs we are looking to fill are both part-time – up to 15 hours per week (we will try to work around your schedule, but you should expect hours to be split over three - four days). Due to the face-to-face nature of the role the positions will be based at our Edinburgh campus.
WHO ARE WE?
We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union. We’re based in Edinburgh and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot-Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here. We have our commercial outlets as well as Advice Hub, academic representation, societies and community, plus we work with Students to make their time at Heriot-Watt the best it can be.
WHAT WOULD THE AVERAGE DAY LOOK LIKE?
- You arrive to start work for the day, you pour yourself a coffee and get settled at your desk. You ask the Activities coordinator about the latest on the upcoming Volunteer Awards, they bring you up to speed before you check your inbox to see there are a few queries to answer around the event.
- Student Parliament was last night, and you have been asked to check over the minutes and then send them out to those who attended.
- The NUS Conference is coming up next month and you have been tasked to organise transport for the delegates. You check that train travel is the best mode of transport and you deliver the total price to the finance team to sign off.
- After lunch, the team at The Advice Hub ask you to help in organising a Therapets event for next semester. So, you check the appropriate space is available and you put in a booking.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
The role pays £10.42 per hour plus holiday pay. You will be fully supported by the existing Student Engagement Team
