We are looking for friendly, energetic students to join our Freshers Week staff team! Working alongside our Front of House and Kitchen teams, you will support us in delivering THE BEST Freshers Week we’ve done!

This is a fixed-length job (lasting for the duration of Freshers Week) and will primarily include evening / night shifts to help us deliver our 9-day Freshers Week events programme. We are looking for people with flexibility which will be essential for this role.

We expect each successful candidate will work 7 out of the 9 days of Freshers Week, with shift lengths varying from 4 to 8 hours each. It is likely that shifts will finish late each evening at around 3am (we provide taxis home for any staff that work past the last regular service bus into town).

Who are we?

We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union. We’re based at Riccarton and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot-Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here. As well as the bar, we have a café, nightclub and shop, plus we work with students to make their time at Heriot-Watt the best it can be.

What will I be doing?

Due to the size and impact of Freshers Week, we need extra staff to cover specific front of house duties that we might not normally need extra people to support. Tasks you might expect to do as part of this role include:

• Checking Freshers tickets and issuing wristbands on entry to our venues
• Assisting in setting up our venues ready for the next event taking place
• Being a friendly point of contact if Freshers have questions about the event
• Working in the cloakroom, taking people’s coats and returning them at the end of the night
• Supporting the Front of House and Kitchen teams during busy periods, such as with glass collecting, stock replenishment and serving food
