Kinghorn
We are super excited to announce our Biology soc X Geo soc X Ocean conservation soc, Fossil hunt!
We also have a special guest, Holly, who has been an avid fossil hunter all her life, she will be able to advise us on any cool fossil hunting tricks.
the plan of action is:
- 6/10/21 meet on campus outside the reception at 9 am.
- Get the bus from campus to Edinburgh Park train station.
- Get the train to Kinghorn.
- Walk for around 15-20mins to the special fossil hunting site.
- spend about 2 hours on the shore hunting for and discussing fossils.
- Walk back to the train station.
- Get the train back to Edinburgh park
- For those going back to campus, we can then get the bus back to campus.
What you need to bring:
- Make sure to wear suitable footwear
- Bring waterproofs even if it says it will be nice weather, it's Scotland, always be prepared.
- Bring a packed lunch.
- Also, you will need to provide your own money for transport. Edinburgh Lothian buses will be £1.80 for a single trip. An offpeak train ticket to Kinghorn will be £9.80 return.
- Also, bring something to put your fossil finds in if you are wanting to take them home with you.
Kinghorn is also a well-known spot for cetacean watching so if you want to bring your binoculars with you feel free to! We will have plenty of time on the shore if you want to do some whale watching also. Also if it is easier to meet at Kinghorn, please advise one of our committee members so we can let you know of our ETA and locations
