Connor, the head of the Web Development group of the Computer Science Society is helping students build up a practical, CV-Ready portfolio over 2021 by working on a series of monthly challenges.
The challenge over February is to build a personal website on Github Pages. This is mainly targeted at first years or other beginners, but if you've been waiting for the chance to build one, now's the time. We'll also be providing any help you need with web development and related disciplines, getting in contact with people in the industry, and hopefully getting some guest lectures booked.
You can join us in the web development channel in our discord server: https://discord.gg/DfemZXbd
I'll be running a live coding + Q&A session on Friday at 4PM, related to this challenge. I'll build a basic static site, introducing the most essential resources and techniques for web design. I'll also answer any questions you have or show you how to build some features quickly. Again, this is mainly for the benefit of first years. I'll also be discussing their web design project with them in the session. If you can't make it, don't worry: the code and a recording will be available afterwards, at the society's GitHub repo and YouTube channel respectively.
Tune in to the session on Teams:
Live at 4PM, Friday 12th February
