Making our PGR students' voices heard

What campaigns or student issues are most important to you?

If I am elected as the PGR member of parliament, I will do my best for our PGR students focusing on

(a) Our wellbeing, for example, the increase of our stipends in responding to the living crisis

(b) Our personal developments, such as, our grant applications and and the facilitations of research collaboration between PhD students from different schools

(c) Making our voices heard and making voices from PGR students based at Orkney campus heard

 What skills and experience would you bring to the role?

I am a PhD student based at Orkney Campus. I graduated from BSc Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence in the first class from the University of Nottingham and MSc Data Science for Cultural Heritage from University College London. I have hold multiple roles representing student voices before:

  • Course Rep for Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, the University of Nottingham, year 2018 - 2019
  • Member of Election Committee, the University of Nottingham Student Union, year 2019 - 2020
  • Course Rep for C01LD, Learning about Learning, Heriot-Watt University, year 2022

I am also actively involved in the local community and the research community:

  • I am a trustee of John Rae Society, a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, elected in its 2022 AGM. The John Rae Society aims to restoring the reputation of John Rae, one of the world’s greatest Arctic explorers and his Orkney birthplace, Hall of Clestrain in Orphir.
  • I am an Early Career Rep for Scottish Life Science Alliance, term 2022 – 2024

Why do you want the role ?

The reason I want to be the PGR Member of Parliment is to make our voices heard.
