Building and Improving MACS’ representation structure

My priorities as MACS MP:

OPEN, CLEAR COMMUNICATION:

It shouldn't be so difficult to find out and contact your student representatives and find out what they're doing. I know from experience that school officers and class reps work hard, and the students they represent should know what they've been getting up to and hear about what changes have been made thanks to them. Emails from your reps and a page on the union website where you can contact them will make this easier for everyone.

IMPROVE YOUR REPRESENTATION:

The class rep and school officer structure can be confusing and I don't think enough students know what exactly happens in all these meetings. I want to use my experience in these roles to support and encourage school officers and class reps to make a real difference. Let's make it clearer, and let's make sure everybody knows who to turn to if they have ideas, feedback or concerns about their courses.

ENCOURAGE DEBATE:

Every single person has at least one idea on how they would make their uni life better; I want to hear them!  I want every member of MACS to feel empowered to contribute to improving life at Heriot-Watt for all of us.

Why me?

Hiya! I'm Leila. I'm in 3rd year on the Actuarial Science course here and I'm from Glasgow. You may recognise me from previously being Women's Officer, Actuarial School Officer, class rep, Drama society member, a Fresher's helper and a general keen bean. I'm excited to be the first MACS MP and give a good foundation to this role with my experience within the union and the MACS representation structure. I also used to have blue/purple/pink hair which made me a lot more "marketable" and "approachable" but now I'm a brunette, sorry, but (hopefully!) still just as approachable.
