Building Bridges

We have so many small, flourishing, diverse communities on campus. I want to build links between all of these to make everyone feel part of ONE Heriot-Watt while continuing to celebrate and champion the diversity of our student body.

Student Start-Up Hub

Provide funds and resources available to launch student businesses. Pop up shops on campus and an online retail space to sell wares and services. Also improved links withindustry and investors, culminating in a big start-up festival at the end of the year.

More partnerships with venues in town

Continue to build our portfolio of partnerships with venues (not just clubs and pubs) in town to ensure that all of our students, societies and clubs have access to the facilities they need for socials, events and meetings at low cost. I also want to ensure that all partner venues have their staff trained in Bystander Intervention training and operate an ask for Angela system or something similar.

Single-use plastic free campuses

I want to continue my work from this year, and work with the university to ensure all 5 of our campuses globally are using plastic responsibly and only when necessary. I also want to work with the university and local government to increase the variety of recyclable material we can handle, and launch a new campaign teaching all students how to recycle responsibly.

Scottish Borders Campus

Ringfence funding to allow students from Galashiels to travel to Union events on the Edinburgh Campus and the City Centre to finally feel part of Heriot-Watt properly. I also want to work with Students at SBC to understand what Societies they'd like to see and facilitate their set-up by linking them to already existing societies at Edinburgh to give them a foundation on which to grow.
