Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh halls are located around campus, meaning you don’t have far to go for your early morning classes. Although we’re half an hour away from the city centre, our shop, bar, café and events mean you’re part of a lively Riccarton community. You’ll get your own bedroom and possibly bathroom, depending on which type of hall you apply for, as well as a shared kitchen and living room, or communal lounge.

Every hall has a warden who lives in the building and is there to offer you help. There are always two wardens who are on call every night, and you can reach them by dialling 3501 from the phone in your room. Every hall also has a housekeeper who can be found in their office and to whom you should report any maintenance problems. Housekeepers will clean your facilities once a week, but it is not their job to do everything for you and they may complain if you’re not maintaining decent standards yourself.
The wardens and the housekeepers are not affiliated with the Student Union. We’re represented by your Halls Officer. If you have an issue with your accommodation that you can’t seem to solve, get in touch with the Halls Officer, and then we can help.
You can read more about each individual hall and how to apply for them on the University’s website.
If you’re currently staying in halls, make sure you join the appropriate Facebook Group as a way of getting to know your neighbours. Search the name of your halls and then the year – e.g. “Leonard Horner Halls 2018 – 2019”.
