On Friday evening, students gathered in the Student Union for the Election Results Party, where the votes from this year’s Student Elections were officially counted, verified, and announced. It was a great moment to celebrate the candidates, the campaigns, and the students who took part in shaping what comes next for the Union.
Now that the excitement of results night has settled, we’re kicking off the week with a proper round-up of the results and everything that made this year’s elections so special.
The votes have been counted, verified, double-checked… and the results of the Student Elections 2026 are officially in.
First things first: 27.1% of you showed up and voted, making this election one of our highest turnout ever. That’s thousands of students across Heriot-Watt taking a moment to have their say and help shape what comes next.
Honestly? We love to see it.
So before we get to the results, a huge thank you to everyone who took part. Whether you voted between lectures, while waiting for the bus, or after spotting one of the many campaign posters around campus, you helped make this election one to remember.
And the Winners Are…
After a week of campaigning, conversations, and engagement, we’re delighted to announce two of your Full-Time Officers for the 2026–27 academic year:
⭐ Mo – The New President
⭐ Kirsty – The New VP Student Communities
Over the next year, they’ll be representing students, working with the University, and leading on the issues that matter most to the Heriot-Watt community.
The result for VP Academic isn’t quite ready to be announced yet, but don’t worry. As soon as everything is confirmed, we’ll share the update. So keep an eye on our channels.
A Huge Thank You to Our Candidates
Of course, elections only happen because students are willing to step forward.
A big thank you to every candidate who ran this year. Campaigning takes time, courage, and a lot of enthusiasm for improving student life, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who put themselves forward.
From conversations around campus to creative campaigning, each candidate played a part in making this election lively, thoughtful, and full of ideas.
What Happens Next?
While the ballots are now counted, this is really just the beginning.
Your newly elected officers will spend the coming months preparing for their roles before officially starting in the next academic year, where they’ll be working full-time to represent students and push for positive change across the University.
For now, though, we’re celebrating a record turnout, a brilliant group of candidates, and a community of students who showed up and made their voices heard.
That’s student democracy, Heriot-Watt style. 💙
