Investment Society

The Investment Society exists to provide students the opportunity to understand the complex world of finance, enhance your employability, and make friends at university.

Jump Start

This society is part of the Jump Start Scheme.

Sometimes a society that has existed in previous years doesn't continue on into the new year for whatever reason, often because the people who run it graduate. This means that sometimes a society is ready to go, but missing a crucial part of what's needed to make it tick, that could be you! With our jump start a society programme, you can become a society leader and pick up where the society left off! If you're interested in adopting this society, please contact the Societies Team for more information! Otherwise, if you'd be interested in joining the society, please sign up so we know which societies have the highest level of interest and where we can offer the most support!

Potential New Society Alert!

This is a brand new society - and we need members!.

This society is brand new, and in order to become an official society it needs a minimum of 10 members before it can start.

If you love the sound of this society and would absolutely join it if it was set up, then see the Join section below to show your interest!

Founded in 2012, the Heriot-Watt University Investment Society is one of the largest and oldest societies on campus with alumni employed in the financial centres of Edinburgh, London, and beyond. If you are considering a career in asset management, investment banking or any other finance-related profession, look no further and join today!

What we offer:

Student-Managed Investment Fund

We operate a student-led, virtual investment fund which you can help us manage, regardless of your experience. You will have the opportunity to pitch stocks each semester as part of a team of analysts, which is an excellent addition to any CV. We publish a newsletter on the society's activities and performance of our fund every month for our members.

Guest Speaker Sessions

Our committee have lined up a number of exciting guest speakers from different areas within the finance sector, offering exclusive opportunities to discover more about your future career and field questions to experts in investment and finance. Furthermore, companies often notify us early of site visits and internship opportunities and, as a member, you'll be the first to know.

Socials

We hold themed socials every fortnight in the city centre where drinking alcohol is not a requirement. It's an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow members and make some friends at Heriot-Watt. At the end of the first semester, we hold a black-tie awards ceremony to recognise some of our best-performing members.

If you have any questions, please send us an email or message on Instagram using either of the buttons above. We hope to see you soon!

Join

Please log in to join this organisation.

This society is just setting up, and in order to do that we need a minimum number of initial members before we can start as a society.

If you're interested in being able to join this society, click to add the "Interested In" membership to your basket and complete the (free) checkout process to let us know.

If we get the required 10 members, we can start the society and you will become a full member!

We Need You!

This society doesn't have any leaders to run it for this year.

If you're interested in being part of the committee leading this society, then we'd love to hear from you and explain the process.

Just email the Societies Team on Union.Societies@hw.ac.uk and we'll be in touch!

Your Privacy

You can view our standard society privacy statements here. If this particular society has any amendments to this privacy statement, they will be shown below.

HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

We also ask to collect your year of study to tailor our schedule of events to suit all society members.

We also organise an Annual Trip to a place of interest, usually in Europe. We ask to collect your name, email, date of birth and passport expiry date to book you and the rest of the group in on the trip should you wish to attend.

This data is then shared with external providers for flights, hotels etc. which vary year to year. Please ask the committee to verify the providers used for the relevant trip.
