What We’ve Been Up To This Summer ☀️

Summer on campus might feel quiet without the usual buzz of students, but behind the scenes, your Student Union has been anything but still. While you’ve been enjoying a well-earned break, we’ve been working hard to make sure the Union is refreshed, ready, and brimming with new opportunities for the year ahead. From organising Freshers and building upgrades to welcoming new faces, here’s a look at what we’ve been up to over the past few months.

Hosting International Schools 🌍

Even in summer, our Union is alive with activity. We had the pleasure of welcoming several international schools to campus, running events that gave visiting students a flavour of Heriot-Watt life. These events weren’t just about fun (though there was plenty of that!), they were a great opportunity for us to showcase our welcoming community and show future Watt students the exciting experiences they can be part of.

A Fresh Look for Zeros 🎨

Zeros has had a complete glow-up! Over the summer, our much-loved event space went through a full refurbishment, starting from the doors and stretching all the way inside. We’ve repainted, refreshed, and even added sleek new wooden panelling to the bar and DJ booth. The result? A warm, modern, and vibrant space that’s ready to host everything from quiz nights to unforgettable club nights. Remember that you can book Zeros for your events here.

Welcoming New Faces 👋

Our Student Engagement team has grown with some brilliant new members joining us this summer. Their passion and energy are already shining through, and they’re here to support you in making the most of your time at Heriot-Watt. On top of that, we also welcomed Lil, your new Vice President Student Communities, who's hit the ground running and already started bringing great visions to the table.

We’ve also been busy behind the scenes recruiting new School Officers, the vital student leaders who represent your academic voice in every school. They’ll be working closely with you throughout the year to make sure your views are heard loud and clear.

Support That Never Stops 💡

Summer may feel like a break, but our Advice Hub team has been as busy as ever. Students turned to us for help with academic support and guidance, and the team were on hand throughout to make sure no one had to navigate challenges alone. It’s a reminder that the Union’s support doesn’t pause, we’re here year-round, whenever you need us.

Thinking Global 🌐

One of the highlights of the summer was our Global Induction, where we connected not just with students in Edinburgh, but with our communities of the Malaysia and Dubai campuses too. Bringing together students and teams across continents, these sessions are a great reminder that being part of Heriot-Watt is about more than just one campus, it’s about belonging to a truly global family.
