Travelling ho ho home for Christmas? Or maybe you're needing to nip into town for the last of your Christmas presents? We know that using public transport at this time of the year can be just a tad stressful, which is why we've prepared a travel guide ESPECIALLY for you!

So, let's get down to the nitty gritty details!

 

Bus Times

If you are planning on using Lothian Buses durign the festive period then we recommend that you plan ahead of travel! You can easily do this by checking the Lothian Bus app/website!

But not too worry, all Lothian Bus times will remain normal until Christmas eve.

 

On Christmas Eve (24th of December), all Lothian buses will operate a Saturday Service.

On Christmas Day (25th of December), Lothian buses will operate a Special Service.

 

Here's some things to look out for during Special Service: 

No Lothian Bus directly from HWU.

34 bus is only running from Princes Street – Newhaven.

37 bus turns into the 34 or 30 from Scott Monument. 

No Nightbus. 

 

On Boxing Day (26th of December), all regular Lothian busses will run including 25 & 34. The 30 will operate on a special route that starts at Westside Plaza. But there will also be no Nightbus!  

From the 27th to the 31st of December, the Lothian busses will run a Saturday Service for all routes.

On the 31st of December, all Lothian bus services will end at 9:30 pm for Hogmanay.  

On New Year’s Day (1st of December) all bus services will run a Special Service. However, they will all be running, including the 25 & 34. 

The Nightbus will also operate on a special service from midnight until 4am.

On the 2nd of January, all busses will run a Special Service and there will be no Nightbus.  

3rd January: All busses will run a Saturday Service all day. There will be no Nightbus.  

4th January: Normal Bus Service resumes.  Hooray!

Trains

As always, train times will be different from the normal train timetable over Christmas and New Year.

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the last trains will depart earlier than normal.
As with previous years, no trains will run on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

For the first time, there will be a Boxing Day service between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Perfect if you fancy hitting the Boxing Day sales! 

From Monday 27 December until Tuesday 4 January inclusive, a revised timetable will be in operation.

Taxis & Uber

Taxis and Uber are a popular travel choice, espeically at Christmas. But be ware - fare will be significantly higher during the festive period, so be sure to check this before travelling and remember to book in advanace where possible! We can guarantee that you don't want to be stuck outside in the frezzing cold!
