This society is part of the Jump Start Scheme.
Sometimes a society that has existed in previous years doesn't continue on into the new year for whatever reason, often because the people who run it graduate. This means that sometimes a society is ready to go, but missing a crucial part of what's needed to make it tick, that could be you! With our jump start a society programme, you can become a society leader and pick up where the society left off! If you're interested in adopting this society, please contact the Societies Team for more information! Otherwise, if you'd be interested in joining the society, please sign up so we know which societies have the highest level of interest and where we can offer the most support!

Welcome to the Heriot-Watt Eco Society!
Where anyone interested in sustainable and environmentally friendly living can meet and discuss ideas. Even if you're not an expert, you can chill and enjoy our free weekly Eco cafes! We are a safe space designed to curate knowledge about sustainability.
We bridge students and the university on sustainability, so ask us literally anything. We will hunt down an answer! Transparency and Communication with the university are core values!
Our aims as a society are:
- To encourage the university to improve their environmental policies and create more ambitious targets
- To increase opportunities on campus to be sustainable
- To combat climate anxiety and create a friendly and inclusive community that supports each other
- To highlight the intersectionality of environmentalism
- To raise awareness of environmental issues and empower students with knowledge
- To push for climate action and pursue climate justice
- To raise money for environmental causes
We host a wide range of events, including litter picks, eco talks from our own lecturers, protest marches, eco shop crawls, film nights, tree planting, beach cleans,s and much more! We also work closely with our sustainability team at university!

Gardening
If you're interested in gardening, contact Robbie (R.L.Fraser@hw.ac.uk), the head of landscaping, to request a plot.
The allotments on the Heriot-Watt campus are open to all students. Whether you're an expert gardener or completely new to it, anyone can go along and plant whatever they want, and the result is some delicious fruit and veg for your dinner. Who doesn't love to eat food with ZERO food miles?
