CAMERON, PRESIDENT

Hardship Funds

This month, I’m really proud to share that we secured an extra £13,000 for students in hardship. That means more students can access support when they need it, and we’ve also improved the application process so it’s quicker and easier to get help.

Housing Campaign

On housing, the campaign has been regrouping and planning our next phase. We’ve met with the SNP and are in talks with the Housing Minister to protect our previous wins and push for new ones, including a 28-day notice period for all students in halls.

Training

I also attended Lead & Change in Birmingham with our VPSC Lilja. Although much of the event was disrupted by student protests against NUS’ lack of action on Palestine, we joined others in holding NUS to account and demanding better. We still made the most of the space by connecting with officers across the UK, sharing strategies, and learning how to build more inclusive, liberation-focused campaigns. Off the back of this, we’re now looking at how we transform our own campaigning to better support marginalised students.

HOLLY, VP ACADEMIC

Organising Campaigns, projects and initiatives for the upcoming semester

Looking back at the officer training we all undertook in June, alongside other training opportunities and my own manifesto points. I have mapped out what activities I want to focus on for the upcoming coming semester so ensure the biggest impact is felt by you guys...watch this space for key updates 👀

Preparing for Freshers Week 2025

Reflecting on my experiences from last year and looking at ways to further enhance the academic based events for this year. I am really looking forward to welcoming new and continuing students back onto campus!

Reviewing Academic Representation

We are looking over lessons learned from the past academic year and looking at how we can work to further support the academic representation system. This includes class rep (& department officers) at all levels of study (UG, PGT, and PGR). If this is something you are keen to get involved in, don't hesitate to get in contact.

LILJA, VP STUDENT COMMUNITIES

Black Voices Project

I’ve been working alongside Kiya over the summer who is our current black voices advocate to set up events for Welcome Week and develop a more efficient means for the project to run to make real change on campus for global students!

Training

I've spent half the month attending different training for how to become a better organiser, so that I can come back and start campaigning on behalf of students on our campus as well as help re-create some of that training for society leaders to take on to help more effectively run their socials - really excited for this btw!

Events

I’ve spent most of my time planning for Welcome Week, regular events at the Union for students, and sustainability week and wellbeing week as well. The goal is for the events we run at the union to be a prominent part of the student experience; memorable, impactful and all-around epic
