Every year, we host the Volunteer Awards to celebrate U.
Our brilliant volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to make the Heriot-Watt community a better place. Whether you help run a society, volunteer with the Union, support projects across the University, or give your time to causes beyond campus, this night is all about recognising everything you do.
Put simply: this celebration is for you.
What’s Happening on the Night?
We’ll be gathering in the Student Union building for an evening of celebration, recognition and a little bit of sparkle.
Here’s how the night will unfold:
- 6pm – Doors open with a drinks reception in Liberty’s Café
- 7pm – The awards ceremony begins in Zeros
- After the ceremony – We’ll head back to Libs to celebrate with our nominees and winners, with food, drinks and music.
So once the awards are finished, don’t rush off. The celebrations are only just getting started.
The Best Part? It’s Completely Free
Yes, you read that right.
This event is entirely, wholly, fully, completely free.
We’ll be dressing up in our most dashing formal wear, and you’re very welcome to do the same if you fancy it. That said, comfort comes first, so there’s no strict dress code. Come as you feel your best.

First of all, congratulations! 🎉
This year we received a colossal number of nominations, smashing records from previous years. Being nominated means you’re in the top three or four volunteers from a huge pool of students. That’s an incredible achievement and something to be proud of.
Each nominee will have one free place automatically reserved, so you don’t need to book a ticket for yourself. However, your friends, classmates and society members are very welcome to attend and celebrate with you. They can reserve their free tickets using the sign-up below.
