We are looking for warm and welcoming students to join our Shop team. You’ll be working in a busy environment, serving a range of customers everything from lunchtime meal deals to Heriot-Watt hoodies. You’ll be part of a close team making sure our customer service is the best it can be.
This is a part-time, casual job. Shifts available will be discussed at your interview. Usual hours will be term-time only. Flexibility is expected depending on what we have going on.
We'd really welcome applications from students with great availability, including the ability to work over a couple of lunchtimes which is our busiest time of the day.
Who are we?
We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union. We’re based at Riccarton and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot-Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here. As well as the bar, we have a café, nightclub and shop, plus we work with students to make their time at Heriot-Watt the best it can be.
You’ll join a friendly, hardworking and professional team and have a real opportunity to make a difference to our Union Shop.
What do you get?
You will be paid £10.42 per hour, plus holiday pay, gain invaluable retail experience and get that warm fuzzy feeling when you know you’ve made a difference to someone’s day.
Typical day on the job
- You start the day by asking your supervisor if anything in particular is needing done, they say that some facing up is needing done before a big order of stock arrives, which you begin to do.
- Afterwards you move onto the tills as you can see the shop is beginning to get a little bit busy, after, you then continue facing up.
- Now the new stock order has arrived, which you begin to unpack and putting out throughout the shop. You go between putting out stock and helping customers with possibly questions they may have about your products.
- Unfortunately, a customer has spilt their Costa machine drink, but that’s okay, you firstly make sure the customer is okay and hasn’t burnt themselves, and then go get a mop and yellow sign and clean up the mess.
- You then continue your day, with various tasks needing completed with a friendly attitude.
- Once the end of the day has arrived, you clean the store and make sure stock is up-to-date.
