Angela, Marketing & Comms Coordinator

Telling Stories with Purpose, That’s That Me Espresso.

Ciao! I’m Angela, Marketing Coordinator at Heriot-Watt Student Union. I moved to Edinburgh from Naples in 2019 to study for my master’s, thinking I’d end up in London but falling in love with this city instead. There’s something about Edinburgh, it’s vibrant but comforting, creative but grounded, and so I figured Scotland was my place.

I joined the Union recently, so I’m still a bit of a fresher myself! From day one, I’ve felt lucky to be part of a team that realistically drives change. My role is wonderfully varied: one minute I’m taking content, designing graphics, planning socials, the next I’m knee-deep in strategy and data. At the heart of it all is communication, ensuring students know who we are, what we do, and how we can support them.

Marketing has always been my calling because it’s all about empowering audiences through communication. It’s not just captions, it’s cutting through the noise by telling stories with purpose.  The Union has been a game changer in that, the work we do is full of heart. Helping run the Awards’ season this year made me really proud, seeing students and staff celebrated for who they are? That’s what it’s all about.

The value that speaks to me the most is a mix of brave and empowering. Moving abroad, finding my way in a new country, it’s been quite a journey. I used to be quiet, but then something shifted. I started thinking, “Be the person someone else may look up to”. So, I found my own voice and understood my opinions matter. I believe in blooming with grace, it may sound cheesy but if you want to lead change, then start with a kind smile.

Outside of work, I love cooking and baking, chasing seaside walks and new travel adventures (oh, the adrenaline rush when a plane takes off!). You’ll also find me reading a lot, I found my niche in the retellings of Greek mythology from women’s perspectives, (who knew!), and murder mysteries. And yes, coffee is my thing too. I can drink ten espressos or a day with no effect. Try me.

Oh, and here’s a fun fact for my fellow strategic snack planners! When on family holidays, I used to sneak out the window to go snack on the beach at midnight. Bites with a view, right?
