Student Union President

The President's main focus is improving the student experience and representing the views of Heriot Watt students to the University. They lead the Full-Time Officer team, and make sure students are at the heart of everything the University does as they sit on University Court, as well as a bunch of other incredibly important committees. The President also leads on Postgraduate Representation!

Student Union Vice President Community

The VP Community will support societies and volunteers, helping to develop them and increase their reach as well as planning events and initiatives to build community on our Scottish campuses. They will campaign and represent students on issues affecting their lives such as the Cost of Living, housing and transport as well as leading the work on sustainability.

Student Union Vice President Academic

The VP Education's main focus will be on academic issues and representing the views of students to the University to improve the learning and teaching experience. They sit on a lot of University Committees and work closely with our School Members of Parliament, School Officers and Class Reps.

Student Union Vice President Wellbeing

The VP Wellbeing is the first point of contact for student Equality and Diversity issues and liberation campaigns. They run the Student Wellbeing Group and work closely with the students that attend it to advocate for positive change in issues facing students identifying as LGBT+, Women, International, Black Asian and Minority Ethnic, and Disabled. Student Member of Parliament (5 places)

There are 5 Student Members of Parliament and there is no set remit for any of these positions to work on throughout the year. It is up to them to create, change or fix anything they want and they can run on any issue or cause they feel needs to be addressed. They will come along to monthly Parliament meetings, and share what they think the key concerns are for students, as well as working closely with the Full-Time Officers to support make positive changes for students.

This is a role supports the Vice President Education and works with them to fix issues faced by students to improve academic life at Heriot-Watt. They attend School Officer Meetings every two weeks where you'll develop effective meeting management and problem-solving skills and drive positive change for students. They also support School Officers and Class Reps at Academic Congress, working with the VP Education and Representation and Democracy Coordinator.

PGR Member of Parliament

The Postgraduate Research Member of Parliament is responsible for collecting the views and needs of other Postgraduate Research students at Heriot-Watt. They will give a voice to these students in Parliament and across committees with the University (such as the University Committee for Research and Innovation and Research Degrees Committee), and work to find solutions to student issues. There is a heavy focus on academic issues but they'll also look beyond these!
