Union Oscars Winners!
Our 10th Annual Union Oscars were on Wednesday night and they were our biggest yet! We received over 1,700 responses and with categories open to all University staff-members for the first time ever, this year was our most competitive to date!
Across 7 categories, we sifted through the hundreds of responses to produce a shortlist of Heriot-Watt University's best staff for 2019 and on Wednesday evening, we threw a glitzy awards ceremony announcing the winners! We decked out Zero's for dinner, drinks and a flashy Oscars backdrop.
For the Online Learning Award, Colin Garvie from EBS won (right). Pictured also is Heather McGregor, Executive Dean of the Edinburgh Business School, presenting the award.
For the Community Building Award, Fanny Chouc from SoSS won. The award was presented by Ann Marie Dalton-Pillay, Secretary of the University.
Doctor Victor De Lima of the University Health Services was awarded the Support Staff Award.
The Success Award was presented by John Sawkins to Ramon Inglada of SoSS.
The Refreshing Award was presented to Jennie Hansen of MACS.
For the Switched on Award, Stephen Houston from EPS won. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it on the night so Gillian Thompson, Director of Learning & Teaching is pictured here receiving the award on his behalf.
The winner of this year's Thinkers Award was Rania Kamla of SoSS.
The Graduate Teaching Award for the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences was presented on the night to Dr Fabio Biancalana (left). Pictured also is Gail Edwards, the Chief Executive of the Student Union, presenting the award.
To give thanks to the exceptional work and help given to the Union Rahul Singh, President of the Student Union presented an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Union to Campbell Powrie.
As was Polly Ashdown in recognition of the fantastic help she has been to the continued success of the Student Union.
