Next up to introduce you to, is Alexander (or Alex, he doesn't mind which!). Alex is your new Vice President Education, which is a new Full Time Officer position for this year and focuses on academic issues and representing the views of students to the University to improve the learning and teaching experience. Let's get to know him a little better...
Name: Alexander Hedlund
Position: Vice President Education
Course studied: Chemistry
Fun fact: I can literally, and figuratively, put my foot in my mouth quite easily
Say "Hi" Alex...
Hi I’m Alex, I’ll be your VP Education for the year ahead. It seems like an eternity since I’ve seen any of you, but I hope to welcome you all back in September. Remember to stay safe and healthy and feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
So Alex, you've been involved with us for a while - what have been your previous positions at HWUnion?
I've been the School Officer for Chemistry. I was the Academic member of the Student Executive Committee before the restructure last year, and last year I was the Student MP for EPS.
What attracted you to the position of VP Education?
I’ve made Education my life for the past 3 years and want to see your experience become the best it can be.
What is the number one thing you're looking forward to in your year as VP?
Improving the things YOU want to see changed!
What three things are you hoping to achieve over the next year?
- Provide a hybrid of online and face-to-face learning for the year ahead and the future
- Empower you to make your courses what you need them to be
- Work to close our Black, Widening Access, Mature Students, Parents and Carers attainment gaps.
If you've got a question for Alex about learning at Heriot-Watt, or want to find out more about what he hopes to achieve, you can email him on Union.VPEducation@hw.ac.uk or find him on Teams by searching Student Union VP Education.
