At the end of the day, we know you're here to get a good degree so you can land a great job that you're passionate about (and live happily ever after, make lots of money and be super famous!).
But the events of the last two years may have complicated things - to put it mildly! Leaving University and hunting for graduate jobs is daunting at the best of times, nevermind in the midst of a global pandemic.
So, we want to tell you about a graduate opportunity unlike any other...and you're already qualified.
There are four full-time, paid positions within the Student Union; open only to current and graduating Heriot-Watt students. The roles are varied but at the core of each is the opportunity to lead the Union, create opportunities for students, and make sure that students are put first, always.
We've been around for 57 years, and we've coached hundreds of Student Officers in this time. We can help guide you as you build the skills and experience employers are looking for, and support you as you make a difference for students. Simply running in the elections will allow you to demonstrate key skills to potential employers.
WHERE TO START?
- Think about the things that frustrated you as a student and what needs to be improved.
- Take a look at what positions you can apply for.
- Choose the role that you're passionate about and will let you have the greatest impact.
- Apply and run a kick-ass campaign!
You'll have access to dedicated staff in the Union to support you with your campaign and we'll be here to help you achieve your goals when you get elected!
WHY SHOULD YOU BOTHER?
TWENTY GRAND. That's why.
Beyond the money (oh aren't you so virtuous!), you can make a real difference for students, on issues you care about. You'll also gain experience being a Director and Trustee of a charity with revenue over £2.4 million as you represent over 10,000 students, and accomplish things that you'll remember for the rest of your life.
On a less serious note too, you'll get to feel like a student for one more year.
