We’re looking for 2 enthusiastic students to join us this academic year to help us work on a new project, tackling the Black Attainment Gap. The role will work with the student union and university to represent the views of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) students.
The job is part-time, around 6 hours per week (we will try to work around your studies, but you should expect hours to be at a time to suit students and university staff). We particularly welcome applications from students with a BME background.

Who are we?
We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union. We’re based in Edinburgh and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot-Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here. We have our commercial outlets as well as Advice Hub, academic representation, societies and community, plus we work with Students to make their time at Heriot-Watt the best it can be.
Student experience is a key priority for us at the moment, and year on year we are this year we have secured funding to address the issue of BME student attainment. The BME attainment gap refers to the growing problem where students from BME backgrounds are less likely than their white peers to get first or upper second-class degrees. We are starting a project with the university to tackle this issue at Heriot-Watt.
What do you get?
The role pays a stipend of £350 per semester. You will be fully supported and you’ll be involved in helping to tackle the issue of BME attainment, to permanently change it for the better.
You will also gain invaluable experience of assisting with running events and communicating with a range of stakeholders.
