Role Overview 

Jump into a role where you're more than just an intern—you're a key player in shaping student engagement. You’ll work closely with our dynamic team to support, plan, and promote transformative experiences that resonate across campuses. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Energise Student Activities: From social events to serious seminars, you'll have a hand in bringing them all to life.  

  • Master of Details: Handle the nuts and bolts of event planning and admin tasks, including maintaining class rep databases and ensuring smooth communication and streamlined processes. 

  • Quick thinking Innovation: Spot opportunities to enhance our student engagement processes and take initiative to implement creative solutions.

Activities 

principle duties 

  • Support/Assist Full Time Officers and Student Engagement Team in delivering our global priorities in the UK including events and meetings. 

  • Provide administrative service for tasks that free up time for the team to be student facing. 

  • Identify and deliver administrative improvements in Student Engagement services the Union provides e.g., award ceremonies, parliament, meetings and team events.

Any other duties deemed appropriate for the role by the Line Manager 

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. Other duties or a change of duties may be necessary from time to time.

Qualifications 

Current Heriot-Watt University Student 

 

Skills/competencies (additional to the standard competencies) 

Excellent communication skills 

 

Ability to think creatively 

 

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team 

 

Good interpersonal skills 

 

Excellent time management and working to deadlines 

 

Familiar with Microsoft Office, including Outlook 

 

Knowledge 

Understanding of what motivates volunteers 

 

Understanding of the student experience, in particular at Heriot-Watt 

 

Previous experience 

Experience of being a volunteer 

 

Current or recent experience of working with students 

 

Experience of maintaining administrative records 

 

Experience of working to a budget 

 

Experience of event planning 

 

Experience of writing copy for marketing materials
