Back to Jobs List

This is a Volunteer role.

What’s the role?

We are looking for a dedicated team of School Officers, who want to make things better for students.  You will work closely with the Student Union President, other School Officers, and staff from your department to ensure that the voices of students are heard at every level within the University!

This is a voluntary role, but one which we recognise can take up a fair bit of your time, up to 5 hours a week.  Usual hours will be a Monday evening from 6pm-7:30pm and then frequent meetings on Wednesday afternoons.

You will be working to support the Class Reps in your department with department level concerns, as well as working with your School and the Student Union on University level issues and policies.

Who are we?

We are Heriot-Watt University Student Union.  We’re based at Riccarton (and have an office in Galashiels!) and our main goal is to make sure that Heriot Watt students have THE BEST TIME whilst studying here.  We have a bar, café, nightclub and shop, and most importantly, we work with students (like you) to make their time at Heriot Watt the best it can be.

You’ll join a friendly, hardworking and professional team and have a real difference to make a difference to the academic direction of the University.

What do you get?

You get full training and support from the Student Union as well as your School - we work as a partnership, so there is always someone you can ask questions of.  You get to attend senior level School meetings, and be the first to find out what the University is working on and to contribute to new ideas and policies.  You get that warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from making a difference and knowing you are helping the students of Heriot Watt (current and future) to have an excellent experience!  You also get paid £150 per semester as a little thank you for all your hard work.

Is this job for you?

If you answer yes to these questions, then apply now!

  • Do you like to know what is going on in the University?
  • Can you speak up and make sure everyone’s voice is heard?
  • Are you a class rep looking for a new challenge?
  • Do you have strong feelings about things the University could be doing better?
  • Do you want to be part of a team that makes real changes?
