This year for Black History Month we’re looking forward to partnering with Unity at abrdn to bring you ‘We can’t change the pasts but we can change the consequences. In conversation with Professor Sir Geoff Palmer’

The session will bring conversation and panel discussion session with Q&A to the Heriot-Watt and abrdn communities and takes place at 1-2.15pm BST 20th October 2021.

The event is an opportunity for these historic Edinburgh institutions to discuss the role that Edinburgh played in the history of the slave trade, the physical reminders of this across the city and how invite discussion around addressing such monuments in the modern day.

Sir Geoff Palmer, Chancellor at Heriot-Watt and renowned scientist and human rights activist is taking part in the event hosted by Mike Tumilty Chief Operating Officer at abrdn and key member of the Unity Network, abrdn’s ethnicity and multiculturalism network. Mike is also a HWU Alumnus, member of The University Court and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee.
