What campaigns or student issues are most important to you?

Cost-of-Living

University should be a time for students to thrive, but it is no secret that many are barely managing to survive.

It is unfeasible to expect students to achieve their best whilst constantly worried about their finances. 

I’d continue to prioritise Cost-of-Living support mechanisms for students both within our institution and nationally, allowing you to focus on your studies as well as get involved in co-curricular activities.

Postgraduate Community

The postgraduate community requires much needed support after years of the Higher Education sector forgetting about them.

Our postgraduate students have to balance study and research with work, so by providing more opportunities to make connections with like-minded students, they’ll have the best chance of enjoying their time here.

International Students

The University continues to increase international student recruitment - which is brilliant for making our campuses more vibrant - but international students unfortunately face a whole host of extra barriers.

I'd work with the University and our international students to fight for a better international student experience.

What skills and experience would you bring to the role?

I stepped up into the President position in February, providing the Union with strong leadership and a smooth transition during an uncertain time.

As Vice-President (Community) 2022/23, I have achieved:

1. Securing ~£7000 to fund a community larder on the UK campuses and working with the University to provide free meals for students;
2. Securing emergency accomodation for students arriving without somewhere to live;
3. Having late enrollment fees waived;
4. Developing the University's sustainability plan;
5. Fighting for students rights nationally.

Why do you want the role? 

I’ve been involved in the Union for nearly 6 years and from the beginning, I’ve been a fierce advocate for students. As is my passion for enhancing the student experience, I wouldn’t run for this position if I didn’t trully believe I was the best person for it.
