What campaigns or student issues are most important to you? (Max 3)

Hey there, I'm Dylan. I'm a year 3 undergraduate student studying Computer Systems, which I am also class rep for.

I'm running on the platform of increased academic opportunities, with a special focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. Since I came to university at the start of this academic year the number one thing I've noticed is how little the schools seem to interact on an academic level, at least in undergraduate study speaking as an MACS student. I don't feel that students should have to wait until industry to get experience in using their skills alongside other disciplines.

I hope that an increase in the number of collaborative projects between all schools of Heriot-Watt would foster entrepreneurship among students, encourage revolutionary ideas to spring from the university and would give valuable teamworking experience that will be useful in the varied working environment waiting after graduation.

I also support wholeheartedly any efforts being made to make degrees more customisable. I believe if a student has a strong calling, the university should do all it can to encourage them and support their journey.

What skills and experience would you bring to the role?

I've several years of class rep experience across college and university, and was a long time member of the debate club in high school. I know how to represent and I know how to push!

Why do you want the role? 

The changes I want to make aren't just what I think students want, they affect me personally. I'd love to get them looked at, and besides which I love engaging with the university. Universities are a pretty important part of science and it's important they work well!
