Welcome to our June monthly update! In this roundup, we will be sharing with you our first news update from our new Full-Time Officer team – both with new and returning faces. We will be covering a range of topics, from Pride Month to Global Student Officer Induction Week.
Are you ready folks?
Pride Month
- Connel, Georgia and Sebi – your VPs – attended Edinburgh pride on Saturday, the 24th of June.
- Georgia was successful in pushing for Canvas to be updated with new Consent modules and will be ready for the new academic year.
- To demonstrate our support for Hate Crime Awareness, we are gearing up to train our student staff to recognise the signs and indicators of hate crime and will be providing a brief on the ‘Ask for Clive’ initiative in August.
Graduations
- Your FTOs had the privilege of giving the vote of thanks to graduating students in the graduations this year.
- Graduate Teaching Awards – which were chosen through your nominations in the Learning and Teaching Oscars – were also presented at the graduation ceremonies.
- Congratulations to all those who graduated! The Student Union wish you the best of luck in your future – don’t forget about us!
Global Student Officer Induction Week
- A one-week long, intensive training week took place, inviting over Anaswara (President, Heriot-Watt University Dubai Student Council) and Ryan (President, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Student Association) to our Edinburgh campus.
- We established our collective four main priority themes for this year:
- Reducing student isolation
- Relieving financial pressure
- Increase clarity, limiting student confusion
- Increase global connectivity
