Welcome Home!
Welcome to Halls
Every Heriot-Watt student, whether living on or off campus, is a member of a hall of residence! Each hall has a unique culture and history, and this is demonstrated in their crest, motto and the thousands of alumni! This will be your new home away from home. Hopefully you will have a fantastic time from the start of Freshers’ Week onwards!
You will have lots of support from your Halls Development Officer, your Wardens, Hall Reps, Sports Ambassadors, and your Student Union throughout the year.
There is so much you can get involved in at university. You can join a sports club at the Centre for Sport and Exercise (CSE), join a society, volunteer, raise money for charity, attend Union events, become a Class Rep and more! Not only will you gain valuable experiences, you’ll make so many new friendships.
Also, by participating in activities as a hall group you can earn hall points for the ‘Battle of the Halls’ competition and the winners will earn the title ‘Hall of the Year’ and an amazing prize event in recognition of your success!
You are now a key part of the Heriot-Watt Community! Being a part of a community really is one of those situations where you will get as much out of the experience as you put in. This section of the website exists to help you get as involved in your community as you would like to. If you ever have any questions not answered on these pages, please do just get in touch with us!

Your Halls Development Officer
Hi! I’m Rosie McConville.
I am here to help you settle into your new home in halls and in Edinburgh! I’m here to help, along with other student support services. I represent your views concerning halls issues and help you to get involved in as much as you can whilst living here.
I really hope you make the most out of your time in halls and enjoy all aspects of university life!
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me and hopefully I’ll be able to help or point you to someone who can!
You can email me at halls@hwunion.com or you might even see me around university! Make sure to add ‘Hwunion Halls Development Officer’ on Facebook too and find your Hall’s page.
Rosie :)
Your Wardens
Each Hall has a Warden to offer advice, support, and deal with any problems along the way. Wardens are also students at Heriot-Watt. If your Warden isn’t in their room you can leave a note and they will contact you. Wardens are usually in their flat in the evening at least four evenings a week. There are always two Wardens who are on call between 1700-2300 every night. They can be contacted by calling 3501 from your room’s phone. If you urgently need help after 2300 hours please contact security control by calling 3500 from your room’s phone.
For more information about your wardens or halls, please see the accommodation services website here.
What will you do with your Hall?

Halls are hubs of student activities – socials, sports events, charity projects, campaigns… no matter what your interests are you can get involved with your Hall!
Not only will you have an amazing time by getting more involved with these activities, you will also earn your team vital ‘Battle of the Halls’ points towards winning the much coveted title of ‘Hall of the Year’!
