WHAT IS THE BIG SIX?

The Big Six are our student feedback surveys, that run for 2 weeks between 13th and 27th November. It comprises of 6 small surveys (ironic when we call them the BIG six eh?!) and each one takes between 4 and 5 minutes to complete.  Basically, we're asking for you to give us anonymous feedback on what it's like to be a student, at Heriot-Watt, right now in 2023, so we can make sure we're improving what we do for you.

The results of The Big Six help us to improve on a smaller scale; department by department, as well as allowing us to plan at an organisational level.

The Big Six is an outlet for YOUR feedback; we want you to tell us how things really are so we can work towards our goal: putting students first, always. 

We need as many students to complete The Big Six as possible so we can understand Heriot-Watt as a whole. This includes all 3 UK campuses and all levels of study.

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE PART?

In return, we have nearly £600 WORTH OF PRIZES TO GIVE AWAY!

We're giving away a £20 Amazon voucher EVERY DAY the surveys are open, to one student who completes one of the Big Six surveys. (Cut off for the daily draw occurs at 23:59, and prizes are drawn the following day). Each survey you complete gives you another daily draw entry.

Complete all surveys in one day, and receive 6 entries to win a £20 Amazon voucher in that day's draw.

Complete a survey a day for six days, and receive 1 entry to win a £20 Amazon voucher in each day's draw.

As well as that, every student who completes all 6 surveys will be put into a draw to win £300 CASH once the Big Six ends.

WHAT IF YOU WANT TO REMAIN 100% ANONYMOUS?

We use Microsoft Forms because it allows us to keep all responses anonymous – we want students to feel comfortable giving us honest, open feedback, regardless of how involved they are with the Union.

We ask for your student number at the end of the survey as a means of identifying you for the prize draw only. However, this field is not required, nor is it included when we analyse the data after the survey closes. So, you can skip this if you would prefer!

T’s & C’s

Not the most exciting, but essential. Here are the terms and conditions of our prize draw...

1. You must be currently enrolled as a student at a UK Heriot-Watt University campus to be eligible to enter.

2. Prizes of 14 x £20 Amazon vouchers will be awarded through means of random prize draws of survey responders who full complete a survey, and provide their Student ID number (H number) before submitting their response. Prize of 1 x £300 cash will be awarded through means of random prize draws of survey responders who fully complete all 6 surveys, and provide their Student ID number (H number) before submitting each survey response. After submission, it is not possible to change your entry into the prize draw.

3. Responders are only entitled to one draw entry per survey – multiple entries of the same survey (through completing a survey multiple times) will be removed and only the first response will be entered into the prize draw.

4. We monitor response quality to filter out responses deemed as poor quality compared to other responses (such as shorter time taken to answer, gibberish answers, obvious patterns of multiple choice answers, profanity etc).

5. Daily Draw: A draw to win 1 x £20 Amazon voucher will be made each day. The daily draw will include participants who completed a survey the previous day between 00:00 and 23:59. Participants completing more than one survey within this period will receive an entry for each survey submitted. Responses received on Saturday or Sunday will be drawn on Monday.

6. £300 cash prize draw: A draw to win 1 prize of £300 cash. The draw will be made on close of the survey and will include all participants who completed all six surveys.

7. Winners will be notified by email to their Heriot-Watt email account. If we cannot contact the winner after 14 days, we may award the prize to another entry drawn at random.

8. We may use the winner’s names and photographs for promotional and publicity purposes. If you would rather remain anonymous, please let us know by replying to your winner notification email.

9. Prizes are non-transferable and there is no cash alternative. Heriot-Watt University Student Union (HWUnion) may substitute alternative prizes of similar value. Failure to claim the prizes by the time or in the manner specified by HWUnion will make any claim invalid.

10. HWUnion may disqualify you from winning a prize if we have reasonable grounds to suspect that you are in breach of these rules or your participation in the prize draw is fraudulent or otherwise unlawful.

11. HWUnion may cancel the prize draw for reasons outside of its reasonable control. HWUnion may amend these rules without notice, by posting changes to them on this website.

12. HWUnion does not accept any responsibility for any network congestion, technical failure or other problem in any telephone line, network, system, provider or otherwise which results in any communication not being properly recorded or received.

13. HWUnion will process the personal information you provide in accordance with our data policies. More information can be found at Hwunion.com/privacy.
